day 3

well, i had trouble sleeping again last night. i was awake from 2-4, and when my alarm went off at 8:30, i was not ready to get up. i reset it for 10, but was still exhausted when the alarm went off. so i just let myself sleep until 12:30, and forced myself to get up, because i swear i could have slept all day. i guess my body is still getting used to the time change. it’s quite annoying.

anyway, i decided to stick with my plan and head to centre pompidou and les halles, since they are right near each other.  the pompidou is a modern art museum and les halles is a mall. i was going to look for some pajamas at h&m.

the walk from my apartment to there is a little over 2 miles, but probably more with my predilection for getting lost. i didn’t really get lost, just took a slightly different way than my directions told me. i passed moulin rouge and walked thru the seedy area there, and had to ignore dudes trying to talk to me.

but once i got past that area the rest of the walk was great. the sun started to show, even though the buildings blocked some of it. i didn’t eat anything before i left, because i wasn’t hungry, but the walk helped with that. i stopped and got my first crepe, ham and cheese, and it was so delicious! (tho i think it upset my stomach later).

i followed the signs to pompidou and finally found it, and got a discount for being a student. i think i also have to start lying and say i’m under 26, because there are discounts for that and i don’t think they check ID. the places is super cool, as you can sort of see in the pictures. i spent quite a bit of time there, enjoying the art and views of the city.

around this time i made the realization that it doesn’t really matter what i do with my time here - i’m not going to get to do everything on my list, and that’s ok. i’m just glad to be here at all.

so my stomach started feeling weird, and i decided to take a quick trip to h&m before heading back to the apartment. well i didn’t quite realize how big this mall is, and it’s the first day of the big sales here in france, so h&m was mobbed, like worse than christmas at home. so i left, and walked around a little bit before grabbing a cab. i would have taken the train, but since it was rush hour, the trains would have been packed.

i stopped at the little supermarket near my place to get dinner - chocolate ice cream and cookies. yeah, i’m living the good life… i figure i’m just going to eat whatever while i’m here. i’m walking around a lot and not eating as much as normal, so i think it will all even out :)
